Gainesville, FL

First day in Gainesville with a Gator Peeking Out!
So, I thought it would be an absolute crime if I didn't give a shout out to the amazing summer that I had last year. I was living in Gainesville, FL with my lovely friend Rachel for the summer to complete my first level II OT fieldwork. The internship started the Monday after graduation so it was a crazy transition, but somehow me and Rachel made it work.

What can I even say about this summer? I think the best way to share the memories is through sharing our bucketlist :)

1. Pass fieldwork. YES YES YES! The main reason for coming to Florida of course! I am happy to announce that I successfully completed my physical disabilities level II placement. Just one away from becoming a real OT! & in case you are wondering Rachel passed as well :)

2. Beach it. I mean, we are in Florida of course! Well, Gainesville is actually pretty central so this took more effort than what we thought at first (we had no cars!) Luckily, we had some good friends to help us out along the way.

3. See Gators. What not a better place than UF, the home of the gators?! This one we actually marked off on our very first day in Gainesville... who would have thought!

4. Explore UF & Gainesville night life.
                                             CHECK CHECK CHECK!

5. Eat a Publix Sub. For all who do not know Publix is a pretty big deal in Florida. It is like the best grocery store ever. A Publix sub is supposed to be heaven so of course it made our bucket list. Verdict: Pretty good! All in all, a solid sub.

At Paynes Prarie!
6. Go to Paynes Prarie.
Our other roomate Kellie took us to do this one. It was hot and muddy but an adventure nonetheless! By the end of it we were covered knee deep in mud but refused to stop until we reached the tower. Surprisingly we didn't really see any gators but tons of other awesome wildlife. The southern landscape was definitely different for this mountain girl but I really enjoyed it.

7. Go to the Bat House at sunset. Basically there are these two bat houses that are home to over thousands of bats who all fly out at once after the sun sets. It was free and for sure a bucketlist item. I think we were more impressed over the crowd of people that was so into seeing the bats over actually seeing the bats ourselves.

8. St. Augustine. This had to be one of my favorite visits. St. Augustine served as the Spanish capitol of Florida for over 200 years & has an awesome fort called Castillo De San Marcos. St. Augustine is also famous for being a pivotal site in the Civil Rights movement. While there we were able to go to an MLK museum to learn more. Also, St. Augustine in general is just gorgeous. Overall, a really cute and historic town which currently has a lot of awesome shops with beautiful architecture.

9. Eat at Satchells. Satchells is basically this awesome pizza place with crazy art all around. I knew about this place before we came to Gainesville & heard that it is a must do thing while in the area. So we went with our good friend Tyler on one of our last nights in FL. The place was pretty cool and served as a great way of celebrating being done with our internships.

10. Have one hiking adventure. For this one we went to Devil's Millhopper and another trail near by. Both were great and absolutely beautiful. Devil's Millhopper is famous for having a giant sinkhole which you can go explore in. The day was great, I am the most happy when exploring in nature so it was a win win. At one point we decided to go off the trail (even though the signs said not to) and almost ran head first into a massive spider, I mean this thing was huge. Needless to say, we didn't do that again. But yeah, we played hacky sack with pine cones and let out our inner adventurers.

Well of course there are a lot more that aren't mentioned here. Like floating down a fairy-land like river, having awesome cooking adventures, & of course all of the wonderful people we met along the way. It was an awesome summer that I wouldn't take back for anything, so thanks to everyone who made it as great as it was :)

xoxo,
Becca
